St Saviour's Dock, 1840

Small ships and boats would have sailed in to the dock and tied up at the sides. On the left hand side at the top of the building a pulley can be seen. A rope or chain would have been lowered to the boat and goods attached to it. This would have been pulled up and taken in to the warehouse through a large door at the top.
