The painter Jacques Le Moyne de Morgues, a refugee from France, settles in Blackfriars. Before his death in 1588 he will produce many exquisite watercolour paintings of plants, flowers and fruit.
Years before, in 1564, he sailed on a Huguenot expedition to found a colony in Florida. The colony was destroyed by the Spanish. With encouragement from Sir Walter Ralegh, the famous explorer, Le Moyne writes and illustrates an account of this voyage, which is published after his death.
